Creatures of the Night -Scraptastic October kit

It's a dark stormy day here, so we are watching movies and making halloween treats :) I got my Dalek pumpkin carved last night and it was a big hit with my guys.

I just wanted to share one last layout with the October Blackbird kit from Scraptastic Club. A couple of photos I took when we walked around our neighborhood last year. I used some of the stamps from the Blackbird stamp set and the Never Tear Us Apart stamp set. I decided to use the liquid pearls to fill in a few of the hearts. The block that the title is attached to, is actually a piece of cardboard backing from one of the packages. Don't forget to look at the nice cards that are in your embellishment packs.

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween Everyone! and take lots of photos!

A little Rotten Layout and a Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Everyone!  What are your plans for tomorrow? Don't forget to take lots of photos even if you don't have little trick or treaters.

I have another Halloween kitty page for you guys. I cant help it, he just poses so well. :) Check out this cool Haunted Manor Collection by Recollections (Michaels Stores). The kitty stamp is also from Recollections to go with this collection - actually there are a bunch of stamp sets, but this page needed a grey kitty stamp.

The banner bits are cut from the patterned paper, and I added tiny black gems to the spiders, and bigger purple gems for the other embellishments. Have you seen the new DCWV Gems? There are some great iridescent finishes on some of them, like these purple ones.

Sketchy Thursday at Scraptastic

Everyone loves a scrappy challenge, right? For a chance at a $20 gift card to Scraptastic Club store, visit the Scraptastic Blog here and play along with Sketchy Thursday! I really like the sketch this month because I left alot of room for interpretation. I was thinking you could add photos or embellishments, move things around, flip it... whatever. You have to see what our amazing Design Team did with it (HERE).

You guys know I don't normally use extra bold background color but this orange woodgrain is so awesome and I had this fantastic photo that I took last week of Figaro by my Halloween tree. Also I wanted to use the stamped image "Things that go bump in the night" for my title because it suited this photo so well. That ornament that fig is staring at doesn't have the velvet ribbon on top anymore. I found it on the floor the next morning with the top chewed off. LOL! I decided to stamp on vellum and also to print my journaling on the vellum. I tested both of these things and found that the best way to stamp on vellum is to use heat embossing powder and this black sparkly one is awesome. But first I printed the journaling onto the vellum and you can buy printable vellum but its not even close to the type of opaque vellum that I wanted. I found that if I used the printer settings on "draft", the ink didn't bleed as much and it dries nicely.
*also... just a side note.. I LOVE my new camera :) It's a new Canon SL1 - smallest and lightest but so totally awesome and the touch screen is my fave part and I didn't even care if it had that feature - makes it amazing to focus specifically and changes lighting. LOVE it.

Oh I forgot to add that I LOVE the wood veneer spiders in this kit but I wanted this one to sparkle so I used the same heat embossing powder on him.

this is how we do Halloween *October Scraptastic kit

How do you do Halloween? Plastic pumpkin and kitchy costumes like the 70's, haunted and spooky, or Bright and glittery? We lean toward the sparkly at my house. We have lots of Nightmare before Christmas things, including my Halloween tree and wreath, and we have wonderful treats and cocktails while handing out candy and watching classic halloween shows - not so much scary as fun.

For this layout I used the awesometastic (my son's word) October Blackbird kit, add on kit, and Blackbird Stamp set.  This layout has some Pinspiration that I thought I would share. If you are on Pinterest as often as I am, I know it is sparking more than a few creative ideas and probably too many calorie filled recipes to mention. After typing this I am making pumpkin muffins :) So first I will share the pinned image that inspired me. These are the cutest Halloween cupcake toppers!

The orange and black fluffy fringy crepe is fantastic and I totally thought it had that halloween party look. I recreated this look by cutting a couple of layers of fringe and ruffling them under my title and then another layer under my photo block. It's just that bit of texture that I needed.

Blackbird kit and a haunted layout *Scraptastic

Normally I don't take photos of my kits from Scraptastic Club, but the Blackbird kit, add on kit, and exclusive Blackbird Stamps are just too fun and I have to share. Sorry about the blur - took them quickly with my phone :) So first I am going to show you a a close up photo and then I will share my first layout because I really love it! Click here to see the full kits for this month

Yes, I will be sharing some halloween layouts but I had to do a Haunted Mansion layout too. This is an old photo of my son, just posing for a photo in Liberty Square of the Magic Kingdom, and the mansion just looks so nice in the background that I had to do a page using a quote that came from the script on the Mark Twain Riverboat. Its a photo that doesn't have alot of color so I went light with the layout and it really lets the photo still be the focal point. Also I recently got this awesome bat punch so I will apologize in advance for the abundance of bats on future layouts :)

Disneyland faves and a sketch

This page is for a challenge at Disney Scrappers and we were participating in an Instagram Disney Parks photo a day type challenge so I created a Sketch #109 at Sketch Savvy to include 5 - 9 photos. I chose to use 5 square photos of some of the photo a day faves from Disneyland so that I can put this page in my Disneyland album. I used MME Collectable collection papers and Simple Stories Say Cheese stickers. See the sketch HERE.

Tis the Season - Echo Park Paper

Well, I am jumping directly to the holidays now with a page I just finished using the New Tis the Season collection by Cassandra Cooper for Echo Park Paper. Its got super fun chalkboard elements including a full page that I used as a background here. You can actually draw on it with chalk! I used a chalk pencil to write the recipe for my Spiced Rum Balls. These are seriously delish! Anyway, I wanted a bit more white so I splattered white paint as well. You really should take a look at this collection. It has some of the best designs and the red is real holiday red! That's a big deal for me because I have a ton of red in my house during the holidays. I hope you guys can tell how much fun I had making this page because this collection really is very easy to work with and so much pepperminty fun.

I punched a few vellum snowflakes to scatter with the cute chipboard snowflakes and sequins, and then used my cricut to cut the title from vellum and stitched it to the background. I kept thinking it looked cool to stitch on a chalkboard because it totally looks like a real kitchen chalkboard.

More Persimmon!

ok I decided I need to have two Basic Grey Persimmon posts today because this is just a very versatile collection. The page I just posted was very Halloween and this is a Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving collection but check out the Feather pack.  I looked at those feathers and the designs in these papers and thought immediately of the Festival of the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom. We love that show and I take tons of photos but they are wild colors and so bold. I haven't scrapped any of them at all! I just couldn't do the crazy colors. This collection is PERFECT! It tones down the wild colors and really made my photos pop. I just love all the cool goodies like those feathers - some are fabric too, by the way - and the great new Candy Button colors! I added a few sequins and of course a Simba... because you have to, and I am pretty happy with it.

For the white scattered stamping on the background, I used of all things, a Sizzix Basic Grey embossing folder. I used a sponge brush and white paint on the embossing folder and just smashed it onto my layout. I kind of like it! :)

spooky golden eyes *BasicGrey Persimmon

Do you decorate for Halloween? I do and its very sparkly rather than spooky. I am not a fan of gross, but I love Nightmare Before Christmas so that's mostly what I have. I am decorating my black Halloween tree today. Last year I took this photo of Figaro. He got under the tree even before I could put the skirt down (pile of orange polar fleece). He and Noel love to lay under our trees and by the time our big Christmas trees go up, they are over the whole biting or batting thing.

I am totally loving the new Persimmon Collection by Basic Grey. If you haven't really looked at it yet, check it out HERE. Its a fall collection and has halloween and thanksgiving elements but its just pretty and not dark and dreary at all. This is of course a Halloween page but I also have a 2 page layout from the Festival of the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom to share later. :)I just love the 31 fabric brad and the awesome chipboard and candy dots. My background is Coordinations cardstock, but all the paper and embellishments except the gold thickers, are Basic Grey Persimmon.

The BG Stencil Alpha pack has a ton of kraft paper stencil letters and they are rectangle but I cut a notch in the bottom for this banner.
