January Sketchy Thursday with the Just a Girl kits

It's a new year and we always say we will get more pages finished this year and catch up on our scrapping. Sketchy Thursday is the last Thursday of the month at Scraptastic Club and it is a great way to make sure you get one more page finished each month. Sketches always speed up the creative process for me. I hope they help you out too. Here is this month's sketch

2016 01

For my example I used the Just a Girl kit, add on kit, and stamp set

I wanted to soften the background a little so I added a sheet of clear vellum from my stash. I used the glassine pocket that the flair comes in to make a little confetti pouch using punched paper scraps and I wrote my journaling using a pencil directly onto the vellum

Now look at this blue vellum piece from the kit, it looks like a dab of paint and its just so perfect to put under another element like this chipboard heart. I wish I had a little stack of these in every color now.

"Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!"

LOL! It's one of my favorite Mulan quotes and I really just wanted to use it on a layout. I have these silly shopping photos of my husband and my friend's husband at Epcot China and I thought it would be perfect. As I was looking for paper to use I was so surprised when the New BasicGrey Dear Heart collection was exactly what I needed for scrapping Epcot China!

Isn't that asian print just perfect and so cute too! I thought it needed some gold accents so I added gold tags and splattered mist

and of course a hidden mickey

Noel - Cranberry Christmas DCWV

My Noel is almost 15 years old and has renal failure now for the past couple of years but she is one sweet, fierce, cuddly cat. I wanted to do a page using a couple of photos from last month with a QR code that would allow us to scan it with our phones and be linked to a little video of her playing. Its not a great video, just from my phone, but its typical Noel. I LOVE the DCWV Cranberry Christmas Stack! It's gorgeous and it has a Noel card that just worked perfectly with my photos.

As always it is tough to really get a photo of these beautiful gold foil accents but I think you kind of get the idea. Here is a close up to really show you some of these papers. I also added a piece of my favorite DCWV gold foil vellum.

The 4x6 Noel card in the stack is perfect to cut out a bit and make a frame for a 3 x 4" photo. I printed the QR code small as to not really mess up the look of the page. If you would like to put a qr code on your layout to one of your youtube videos, just google search for a QR code generator and you will simply copy and paste your link and it will give you a code that you can then save to print out as you like. I think they print best on photo paper.
I also used some cranberry colored and tiny clear DCWV gems ,  along with some sequins

Cut file background with Just A Girl kit *Scraptastic

I love a cut file and this month the Digital Cut file for the Scraptastic Club Just A Girl kit is this awesome star pattern. I have used it three times already! It is not very fun to take it off the mat after cutting but it is so totally worth the trouble. I used the Just a Girl kit, Add on kit, and Digital Cut File.

I love the way this cut file looks with pieces of the patterned paper behind. I decided not to put paper in all of them.

and the Thickers glittery foam alpha in this kit appears white but on angle or in the sun, it has alot of iridescent color.

2 layouts using the Just A Girl kit

Today I thought I would share my first two layouts using the Scraptastic Club "Just A Girl" kit, Add on Kit, Digital Cut file, Color Add On, and Stamp set. I also used the Plan on it stamp set.
For my first layout I decided on the charcoal cardstock for the background and then I used the cut file with the white cardstock. I will tell you that when you cut this starry cut file, you need to plan to take some time getting it off the mat, but it is very worth the time it takes.

Since my page is about sorting by color and this kit had the two perfect alphas for the words "darks" and "multi", I pulled the white Thickers from my December "All I want for Christmas is You" kit and used that for the word "whites". I thought the chipboard days worked great for laundry too

One of my very favorite things this month is the "Just a Girl" number stamps and if you have the "All I want for Christmas is You" alpha stamps, this is the same font, which is super cool. I stamped and embossed in yellow on vellum and cut it out. I also stamped the little "the GOAL_______" image directly using black ink

For my second page I had planned to also use the cut file in white and I loved it on grey so much that I pulled a light grey sheet of cardstock from my stash to use as the background. I splattered with the mists from the "Just A Girl" Color Add on on both layouts.

I used some more of the little stamps from the Plan on it set and one is a check box that I stamped directly onto my photo using black ink.

Alpha Challenge Thursday at Scraptastic

Today is Challenge Thursday at Scraptastic Club Blog and Jennie McGarvey I are challenging you take those alphas that come in your kits and mix them up!  Use them together and use them up.  We are so lucky to get so many gorgeous alphabets each month but they can pile up, so lets use them on our pages! Check out Jennie's Page HERE

I decided to use the "Ain't No Sunshine" kit and Add on kit and there is a nice black foam Thickers alpha and a gorgeous gold puffy Thickers alpha. Then I added the white glitter foam Thickers from the "All I Want For Christmas is You" kit. With these really decorative alphas in the kits, they become part of the embellishment of the page.

I used two of the alphas for the title "Piglet Birthday Kiss"

and then added the 3rd type of alpha at the bottom for the "XOXO"

piglet-kiss-1

I hope we have inspired you to pull out that stash of alphas from the kits and use them a bit more on your layouts.
