Color Combos Galore #179

Color Combos Galore is celebrating Valentines with a series of scrumptious, delectable Inspiration Boards for the month of February. And Challenge # 179 is Live HERE Now you will notice that all of the designers(except me)looked at this beautiful photo and thought of love and Valentines. I took one look at it and my brain said BAND PHOTOS! LOL! I have a bazillion band photos from the past 11 years or so and almost all of them are black, grey, white, and Maroon so I had to pull out some of those. Of course I thought of the silly "dance" photos first. :)

For my page I used some really old band papers with some newer Basic Grey Basics and Oliver. I punched diamond shapes and created dimensional diamonds by stitching them down the center and folding the sides upward. Then I put them in the album and realized the flatten. LOL! So I went back and added little foam squares under the sides so they would still have that dimensional look. If you would like to see a little step by step of the diamonds, let me know and I will make one and add it here.

sugary sweet February! CCG#178

Color Combos Galore is celebrating February, the month of Valentines and sweethearts, and SWEETS with a series of scrumptious, delectable Inspiration Boards! and Challenge # 178 is Live HERE The inspiration photo this week is enough to make your mouth water, but check out the reveal to see all of the beautiful pages!

For my page, I pulled out some ancient Basic Grey Allyssa papers and some newer DCWV and Graphic 45. The challenge this week was to use stamps or rubons so I used some Inque Boutique stamps for the journaling piece and birdie, along with a Stampabilities stamp for the "baby's breath". I just embossed with white and then cut it out. The flowers are cut using Tim Holtz's flower die and then layered and curled. It makes a great rosette. The photo also had a bit of lace so I added some lace.

Botanicals by DCWV

This DCWV Botanicals stack is full of beautiful papers! I almost had a hard time cutting into them. I just really wanted to scrap this photo that I printed from a slide. See, for Christmas I got this thing that allows you to put a slide into it and it takes a digi photo of the slide - super fast and decent resolution. Its not as super high res as my scanner will do but its fast and I have ALOT of slides. This photo was taken of my mom when she was pregnant with me and visiting family. Daddy just took a quick photo and my granny, in classic fashion was dressed in perfectly coordinating clothes and shoes, even for a farm visit. She stopped to smile for the photo and has her feet in a ballet 3rd position. Because you know you must pose for photos. LOL!

So when you have an amazingly ornate paper like I have used here, don't be afraid to try it as a background. Obviously, it needs a bit of toning down with the strip of diamond print paper across the middle and the doilies, but it works great even in amounts. I also cut some fruit and flowers from other pages to use here. They remind me of my granny and great aunts. I also crocheted a little scalloped border and made a floss card out of cardstock, to give it a sort of homespun look.
