i {heart} sassafras lass and a little thank you

Oh what a nice surprise I got today! I found out that I got 1st place in the stamp contest on Sassafras Lass' blog for my little card (below) http://sassafras.typepad.com/
I have to tell you, I was doing some snoopy dances when I found out! WOOHOO!

You must check out the other entries because they are just so beautiful that I spent a LONG time looking at every detail.... and also go look at all of the new products and their awesome blog too. I am telling you, you will be inspires to create AND SHOP! lol

I was inspired to create this thank you card using the Sassafras Lass collection, "Robotics" and yes I had to use some felt to create a little rocket that looks kind of like the rocket on the papers. I used my favorite Kreinik Fine (#8)braids for the stitching. This little card is for my good friend Kristin who is always helping me out at a moments notice. Thanks Kristin!!!!

Holiday Inn 1942

Holiday Inn is one of my favorite old movies. You have to love Bing and you know, this is the movie that he sang White Christmas in first. The new years party is one of my favorite parts and this quote is from the lyrics to that song "Ringing the New Year in"

We had a challenge at www.alteredpages.com to create an ATC using a movie quote and here is one of mine. I used an image from the "Auld Lang Syne" image sheet from altered pages and sealed the quote and papers using tea dye varnish. Then I had to play with some of my new metallic threads from www.Kreinik.com. The greenish silver and brown threads are new Tapestry (#12)braids and they are perfect to add some sparkly stitching.

Savvy's catfood waterfall

I normally don't put photos on my blog, but SAVVY - What a mess! Oh, it's almost like he is a dog sometimes. I was pouring the catfood in front of him and had to go get the camera. He can grab like 3 -4 pieces at a time!

hi! stampy flowers

A fun thing to do with those mini background stamps. This dotted background is from the "Flock of Cards" set by Sassafras Lass and the cute little "mini mockingbird" alphabet stamps are also from Sassafras Lass. The patterned papers are from the "Life is Beautiful-Indian Summer" and "Serindipity - Whale of a tale" collections from Sassafras Lass. www.sassafraslas.com

*To create the flowers stamp the background dottie stamp on cardstock and then use a black marker to draw flower shapes, cut out, and add a circle of fleece, a black sequin, and a red bead.

Birdie Camper

Now I just need some cute little birds. This Mr Campy Collection by Cosmo Cricket is just way too cute and I cant even believe I found a camper to cover! The little stamps are just great too - they really added to this camper. This is obviously not going outside. *Click to enlarge the images*

give me a real challenge!

What was I thinking?! LOL! So first of all I combined the current Disney Challenge which includes Downtown Disney and shopping (http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=2626782). This is Chris in the store in Downtown Disney where we get Noel's cat treats. *sidenote - thank you Kristin for picking up a new tin of treats! Noel will be so Happy!!!

then I added the Use Your Stash Challenge for this week (http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=2628389)
I used American Crafts Papers, SEI buttons, Jolees 3D sticker puppy, Letter stamps using paint instead of ink, a transparent accent, ribbon, and a vacation photo.

And lastly I told Mandy to throw me a "Real" challenge so she said to use Red and Black, a feather!, and paiting and transparency for the title. WHAT??? a feather on a puppy page??? ok, took a bit of creative disney thinking and really Dumbo's feather should be black, but you get the idea. It was tough but pretty fun - thanks for the nudge, Mandy!

I {heart} pirates

Well I do {heart} pirates. And working with these "Whale of a Tale" papers by Sassafras Lass made me think of a friend of mine (tanya) who likes me to make Talk Like a Pirate Day cards. Yes, its a real day. LOL! Anyway, if you know me, you know I love to use the cardboard from the Starbucks cup holders. This journaling stamp fits perfectly in the large section of that cup holder. First I sanded off the Starbucks printing, then I dry brushed the surface with ivory and white paint, then stamped the "once upon a time" by Inque Boutique(Darice) journaling stamp. Then I messed it up a bit and stuck it on the card. yes, you will be seeing more of this, it was too fun.

Here is the question of the day: who already knew there was such a thing as Intl Talk Like a Pirate Day? Who knows just off the top of their head when it is? :) I know one person who definately knows because its the same day as her birthday!

A Whale of a Tale!

Got a whale of a tale to tell ya, lads
A whale of a tale or two
'Bout the flappin' fish and the girls I've loved
On nights like this with the moon above
A whale of a tale and it's all true
I swear by my tattoo

Ok so I wanted to play with my new Sassafras Lass papers that I just got so I pulled out some Sea World photos from our many trips and I went all the way back to 1995 and found this ADORABLE photo of Alex when he was 3. It wasn't that great in 3x5" but when it's enlarged to 8x10 and cropped it to 7x7" its fantastic. I am so glad I found it.

The minute I found this photo I started singing the "whale of a tale" song. I know its from 2000 Leagues but when the boys were little they totally loved that sing along video that had this song on it so we watched it ALL the time. After I made the layout I realized that the collection is called Whale of a Tale by Sassafras Lass and that's probably what got me singing. I loved making the cute whales sit above the other waves with foam tape but it still needed more "watery" stuff so I added some ribbon that I squashed up by stitching sequins and seed beads to it. The little stamps are called Nesters and are also from Sassafras Lass.
(*note - you just have to click to enlarge the layout to full size and see just how stinking cute Alex was at 3 years old!)

There was Mermaid Minnie, met her down in Madagaskar
She would kiss me, any time that I would ask her
Then one evening her flame of love blew out
Blow me down and pick me up!
She swapped me for a trout

Got a whale of a tale to tell ya, lads
A whale of a tale or two
'Bout the flappin' fish and the girls I've loved
On nights like this with the moon above
A whale of a tale and it's all true
I swear by my tattoo

There was Typhoon Tessie, met her on the coast of Java
When we kissed I bubbled up like molten lava
Then she gave me the scare of my young
Blow me down and pick me up!
She was the captain's wife

Got a whale of a tale to tell ya, lads
A whale of a tale or two
'Bout the flappin' fish and the girls I've loved
On nights like this with the moon above
A whale of a tale and it's all true
I swear by my tattoo

Best Pals

ok now that I am finished with this, I wish I had called it "Two of a Kind!" so I am saving that title for later. LOL! I LOVE the way Savvy looks with Scarlets letter paper but he is pretty good with any paper. This is just such a cute photo of Alex and Savvy. It was early on Easter and I told the boys that I wanted to take some photos on the patio. Alex says, " OK, I'll get Savvy!" and he is out the door, because of course Savvy needs to be in photos with him.

I did kind of an odd thing for this flowery border. I took the image from one of my designs in the stamp set called "Boho Frames" (Inque Boutique)http://www.goinque.com/asp/product/product.asp?id=1013 and I sort of re-drew the same kind of viney flowery thing in a size that I could use on this layout. Then I cut it from coordinating papers. Turned out pretty cool. I may do that again and I am kind of wishing I had scanned the pattern.

Trinidad North Caribbean Beach Resort WDW

I was wanting to put a layout with this photo on my wall so I finally created one. Its the resort that we stayed in last summer in Walt Disney World. One afternoon after Animal Kingdom, the boys went for a swim and I walked out to the little island and took photos around the resort. It was so beautiful and I have many more to scrap.

This older Prima Paper is just perfect. I gathered a piece of green satin fabric, hand cut flowers from the paper and added a bit of bling with some chunky silver glitter on one flower. The Grunge board is painted white, sanded, inked and then I sprinkled dry embossing powder and did NOT heat emboss it, then sprinkled some tiny glass beads on it.

The die cut shapes are from K&Co and they are just amazingly detailed and are two sided. I have used a Port Royal postage style stamp and the "Welcome to the Caribbean" stamp from www.rubberstampave.com. And also the cute pirate icon from the Savvy stamp set by www.inqueboutique.com.

Pals 2006

These are some photos of Casey and Savvy that I have wanted to scrap for awhile but they are not the prettiest photos. Casey was really not doing that well and he had just gotten his hair shaved for the summer. Savvy loved Casey, but poor old Casey didn't have the strength for a kitten like Savvy. No one has that kind of strength really. LOL!

I LOVE this pet collection from DCWV - its just exactly what I needed. Love all the glittery embossing and Casey dog colors.

Jedi or not, you're going to wait.

This layout is WAY outside my box but it was FUN! My friend, Kristin, did this amazing layout using these Kerry Lynn Yeary papers and I just had to CASE it. Here is Kristin's layout: http://memoriesbythepageful-kristin.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html I really love her photo and the fantastic quote but my page went a little silly because of the photo I chose. Not alot of cute bluebonnet photos for me lately. :) THANKS KRISTIN!!!

Flash back and Blast off!

I went to a fun crop this weekend with some friends and so far this is the only completely finished layout that I have scanned. I will post some more later when I get some time. Today is band registration day so we have to go do that for awhile.

This is a photo of alex from 1996 that I have been wanting to scrap. I though the BG Cupcake would be just perfect. Of course I used the rocket from "Boys World" by Inque Boutique. I also made some hand drawn circles of checks and you know - I thought they would be a fast fun thing to do but they took FOREVER!!! Love the look. I also made some more felt embellishments and this time I used the cool braided shimmery threads from Kreinik.
